World welcomes 2018 Happy New Year

The UK has welcomed in the new year with spectacular firework displays with over 10, 000 fireworks lit up the sky in every colour, as part of a 12-minute display with London eye as the centrepiece.

Big Ben chimed to welcome in 2018 after been turned back on part way the restoration work.

London Ambulance Service treated nearly 300 people across London and took 77 to hospital, most people suffering from alcohol-related illness.

In New York burst of confetti and fireworks ushered the 2018 in freezing cold conditions of -10°C , as party goers wrapped in extra layers , wearing warm hats and face masks, dancing and jogging in place to fight the cold.

In Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro the fireworks erupted the skies of Copacabana beach.

Germany rang in 2018 in Berlin under tight security with 1600 officers on duty at Brandenburg Gate.

Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, towering 829.8 meters above the ground. the world’s tallest building, was the focal point of New years’s Eve celebrations with a massive LED light show on it.

Pope Francis has decried wars, injustices and environmental decay which he says have “ruined” 2017 and said at a New Year’s Eve prayer service in St. Peter’s Basilica, a traditional place said “God gave us a 2017 “whole and Sound, but that “we humans in many ways ruined and hurt it with works of death, lies and injustices.” The New Year’s Day mass will be dedicated to the theme of world peace.
