Young engineers chance to see best of British engineering
Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin told the Tory party conference that he wanted Crossrail chariman Terry Morgan to help launch 30,000 apprenticeships by 2020.
Young engineers of London could get a chance to tour 73 miles Crossrail tunnels £15billion rail route, deep under the capital in a plan to see British Engineering expertise at its very best.
Ministers want to open sections of the tunnels before the official Crossrail services are scheduled to run in 2018, and said “Crossrail will have a national impact on skills. It is one-off opportunity to get young people as excited about big projects as we are”.
Crossraill will run from Reading to Heathrow in the West through tunnels under central London to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the East.
There will be 40 Crossrail stations including 10 new ones at Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon Liverpool Street, Whitechapel, Canary Wharf, Custom House, Woolwich and Abbey Wood.
