TransAsia Flight GE235 plunged into the Taiwanese river kills 12 people

TransAsia ATR 72-600 Turboprop Flight GE235, a domestic low flying passenger flight, with 58 people on board, hit a bridge in Taipei Taiwan  at 10:55 local time (2:55GMT) and plunged into the  Keelung River.  This crash claimed 23 lives and  16 suffered minor injuries as well as there being  30 people still unaccounted for. The plane is now half-submerged in the Keelung River, as the rescuers including army troops,  cut open the side of the fuselage and rescued several people trapped inside. In July last year, a TransAsia plane crashed due to heavy storms,  killing 48 people in the island of Penghu.

According to Aviation officials, the plane lost contact with the control tower soon after take-off and crashed in minutes. Founded in 1951 as Taiwan’s first private civilian-operated domestic airline, the company  later branched out  overseas.  For more information, google the airline.
