Dettol and Durex sale leaps as virus rules were relaxed
The sale of Durex and other “sexual wellbeing products” rose 12.6 per cent in the last three months, when social-distancing rules were relaxed in the summer, according to its maker Reckitt Benckiser.
Sales of Dettol, Cillit Bang, and air fresheners also jumped, helped by workers improving their new home-office environment, as the total group sales in the last quarter rose 13 per cent to £3.5bn on last year, Reckitt said.
During the spring lockdown, Reckitt saw a sharp drop in demand for condoms as people have less sex fearing the pandemic.
Laxman Narasimham, the CEO said, “ Our performance has been led by an increase in hygiene and health volumes as sales of Dettol-branded sprays, wipes and liquid climbed more than 50 per cent compared to the same last year”.
Ann Summers said the sale of Lingerie and sex toys were up 14.4 per cent in three months to 26 September compared to last year.
