Bollywood veteran actor Dilip Kumar, ahead of his 98th-birthday on Friday, his wife Bollywood heroine Saira Banu said that she is not looking for praises to be called a “devoted wife”. ” Just to cuddle him is the world’s best thing that’s happening to me. I adore him. He is my breath itself”.

When Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu got married it was not less than a fairytale as the young girl who was just 12 fell for a world-renowned actor Dilip Kumar in 1966. Saira Banu who lovingly calls Dilip “My Kohinoor,” said “ Our marriage has been as good and enduring a marriage as so many marriages that have survived the ups and downs for four decades. No marriage is perfect.”

Azam at Maratha Mandir, Mumbai, India, Banu then 16, had gone to watch the show and get a glimpse of Kumar. She was heartbroken when she couldn’t see him.

Banu in an interview said the very first time she met Kumar, “he smiled at me and remarked that I was a pretty girl. I could feel my whole being taking wing and flying rapturously. I knew somewhere deep within me that I was going to be his wife”. Dilip proposed to her for marriage while they were out on a drive in Mumbai. She was 22 years of age and Kumar was 44. The couple has an age gap of 22 years. Nevertheless, they got married in the year 1976.
