Although Republic of Ireland got off to a stunning start, leading in the second minute after Robbie Brady converted a penalty following Shane Long’s foul in the box, the French cameback through Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann, with two goals in the second half. Shane Duffy was sent off for foul on Griezmann.
France will face either England or Iceland in the next round at Stade de France on Sunday,3rd July 2016.
Germany demolished Slovakia in Lillie to set up a quarter-final against Italy or Spain. Jerome Boateng’s superb 25-yard volley before Mario Gomez poked in the second and Julian Draxler made it to 3-0 with a near-post volley after the break.
Mesut Ozil missed a penalty fro Germany in the 14th minute. Slovakia;s Jurak Kucka heard was brilliantly tipped over by Manuel Neuer.
Germany had 61% possession and 7 shot on target and 8 penalty corners.
The Chelsea winger Eden Hazard scored a solo goal , when he cut in from the left, beat two defenders and fired in low, as Belgium defeated Hungry 4-0 and they meet Wales in Lille on Friday in the last-eight tie. Tottenham;s Toby Alderweired scored within 10 minutes, Michu Batshuayi made it 2-0 when he tapped in, Hazard scored his superb goal in the 80th minute before Yannick Carrasco fired the fourth in stoppage time. Hungry had 54% possession and had 16 shots and 6 corners.
