Freddie Mercury’s house in Essex adorned with a blue plaque

This year is the 25th anniversary of Freddie Mercury’s death. Freddie was originally named Farrokh Bulsara, and was the lead singer of the fabulous inimitable group “Queen”.  The family came to Essex from Zanzibar to 22 Gladstone Avenue, Feltham, Middlesex in 1964 when Freddie was just 17.  He met Brian May – guitarist and Drummer Taylor whilst studying at Ealing College.  They got together and listened to Jimi Hendrix on Freddie’s Dansette record player and later formed “Queen”.

Mercury’s sister Kashmira Cooke unveiled the plaque and said how pleased she and her mum were and how they knew Freddie would have been too. Karen Bradley – Culture Secretary was also there for the unveiling.  This year Freddie would have celebrated his 70th birthday.
