England reach ICC T20 World Cup Semi-finals despite losing to South Africa

South Africa won by 10 runs.

England qualified for the semi-finals of the Men’s T20 World Cup despite losing to South Africa in Sharjah by 10 runs.

Chasing 190 England needed 14 from the final six balls and Kagiso Rabada who began the over with a hat-trick, having Chris Woakes, Eoin Morgan and Chris Jordan caught in the deep.

South Africa, however failed to limit England total to 131 or fewer runs  meant Australia also reached the last four at the Proteas’ expense.  Although England lost but progressed while South Africa won but got eliminated. England was playing with out their star opener Jason Roy due to a serious calf injury and already lost fast bowler Tymal Mills for the rest of the tournament with a thigh strain.

Earlier South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen made an entertaining and brilliant unbeaten 94 from 60 balls to steer South Africa to 189-2, sharing an unbroken 103-run stand with Aiden Markram, who scored 52 not out from 25 deliveries.

The result did not affect England’s Super 12 standings.
