Royal watch commissioned by King James I fetches nearly £1million
A Royal oval astronomical watch with an engraved portrait of King James I made by David Ramsay around 1618, fetched £ 989,000, almost four times the pre –sale estimates at the Sothbey’s auction in London, but the buyer and seller remained anonymous. The cover is engraved with scenes from poet Ovid’s Metamorphoses.
