Romely Lukaku scored twice for Belgium and recorded their first win at Euro 2016. Opening half remained goalless, as Lukaku scored in the 48’ with lightning finish from the edge of the area and Axel Witsel headed in a second in the 61st minute, before Lukaku sidefooted ad scored after a counter attack. Belgium next face Sweden. Belgium dominated possession throughout with 57%, with Eden Hazard and Kevin de Bruyne effectively attacking their opponent’s defence with 7 shots on target and had 5 corners. There were 28 passes in the build up to Witsel’s goal.
Birkir Saevarsson’s late own goal denied Iceland a famous victory as Hungry held Iceland to a draw. Gyfli Sigurdsson gave Iceland the lead in the first half when he converted a penalty after a foul. Although Hungry dominated possession from then on they found they could penetrate Iceland defence. Saevarsson turned Nemanja Nikolic’s cross into his own net to hand Hungry a point.
Cristiano Ronaldo missed a second half penalty as he stuck the base of the post with his spot kick after Austria defender Martin Hinteregger had wrestled him to the ground and later headed home only to be denied by he being offside. Robert Almer Austrian goal keeper made several sensational saves. Portugal held to a goalless draw by Austria.
