A 34-carriage freight train direct from China to the UK has, at last, arrived in Barking, East London after 18 days travelling more than 7, 500 miles across seven countries and through the Channel Tunnel.

There were two colourful Chinese dragons entertaining the crowds before the trains arrived just after 1 pm.

London is the 15th European city to be served by freight trains from China.  The trains carrying £ 4m of commodities directly from the factory floors of Yiwu, the eastern city in China, passed through London for the first time.

The Chinese locomotive is named after  their leader Mao Zedong “ The east wind will prevail over the west wind.”
