Cristiano Ronaldo wins Fifa Best Player award
The Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo(32) beat Lionel Messi and Brazil’s Neymar world’s most expensive player to win for the second successive year, the Best FIFA Men’s player, after receiving 43.16 per cent of the total votes and was presented with the 2017 award by Diego Maradona and former Brazil star striker and Paris St-Germain’s Ronaldo at the London ceremony.
Cristiano said “This is a great moment for me. I know I have a lot of fans all over the world so thanks a lot for the support. Thank you a lot, to the guys who voted for me. Real Madrid supporter, my team-mates, my coach, my president, I have to thank them too.”
Real Madrid’s Zinedine Zidane received 46.22 per cent of votes and made it a double after beating off Chelsea’s title-winning manager Antonio Conte ( 11.62 per cent) and Juventus Massimiliano Allegri ( 8.78 per cent) to be named Best FIFA Men’s Coach.
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud won the FIFA Puskas Award for the goal of the year.
Giroud’s scorpion-kick goal scored against Crystal Palace in January beat off competition from Venezuela’s Deyna Castellanos and South African goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke.
Best Women’s Coach was won by Netherland’s Sarina Wiegman and Best fans Celtic
Lieke Martens of Barcelona and the Netherlands won the Best Women’s Player. Best Goalkeeper award was won by Gianluigi Buffon and Fair Play award won by Francis Kone.
