David Cameron has returned to Downing Street with 330 seats the Tories won the general election.

The Conservatives made gains in England and Wales giving them a slim majority.

Labour leader Ed Miliband stood down,  after a diffult and disappointing night  as they secured only 232 seats, and could muster only one seat in Scotland, saying his party must “rebuild” with a new leader. Ed Balls, Jim Murphy and Douglas Alexander all lost their seats.

Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg has also  quit, with his party set to be reduced from 57 to eight MPs.

UKIP leader Nigel Farage also quit after he failed to win Thanet South, losing by nearly 2,800 votes to the Conservatives, as they only won one seat.
