England Vs India Third International Test Match Series Day 1 of 6 at Headingley.

India.  78 ao off 40.4 ov,  Rohit 19 off 105, 1 four, Rahani 18 off 54, 3 fours, Anderson. 3-6, C Overton 3-14, Robinson 2-16, S Curran 2-27.

England 120-0. Off 42ov Burns 52 no off 125, 5 fours, 1 six, Hameed 60 off 130, 11 fours, 6 sixes,

 

England bounced back after their miserable defeat in the second test with a punch on the third test by skittling out India for 78 on the first day at Headingley, and scored 120-0 a lead of 42.

James Anderson claimed 3-6, including India captain Virat Kohli,  and Craig Overton in for injured Mark Wood too, three wickets, and he and Sam Curran had the chance of a hat-trick after taking two wickets in two balls, as England exploited the seam movement on offer after India  winning the toss.

India lost their last seven wickets for 22 runs, at one stage losing four wickets for no runs in the space of six balls.

 

In reply England’s Haseeb Hameed scored 60 not out to open the batting in Test cricket for the first time since 2016 .  Rory Burns added 52 not out , with England’s opening partnership passed India’s total to leave the hosts in a driving seat to level the match series 1-1.
