England win by 106 runs

England amassed 386-6 their highest World Cup total in a 106-run victory over Bangladesh in Cardiff thanks to Jason Roy’s 153, Jonny Bairstow’s 51 and Jos Buttler’s 64 with Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer capturing 3 wickets each. 

Shakib Al Hasan scored 121 whose efforts were in vain as Bangladesh were bowled out for 280.

England’s prolific opening partnership of Roy and Bairstow clicked with an 128-run stand with 14 fours and five sixes, although Bangladesh restricted England to 15 runs in the first five overs.

Jofra Archer’s electrifying opening spell clipped the top of Sarkar’s off stump with one that nipped back, the ball flew over the boundary behind stand-in wicket keeper Bairstow without bouncing.

 

With two wins from their three matches, England join Australia and New Zealand at the top of the table on four points.

England play against West Indies in Southampton on next Friday.

Bangladesh with one win and two defeats are eighth and play Sri Lanka in Bristol on Tuesday.
