New Zealand won the toss put England in. Jos Buttler’s priceless addition of 42 runs in the last five overs enabled England to pass 300. His first boundary took 24 balls. At one point England were 135 for 3, with Root on the verge of fifty and his stand with Ben Stokes only facing 15 balls in the next ten overs. New Zealand’ seamers tormented Stokes with a few wide deliveries outside off stump. LE Plunkett tormented NZ bowlers and ended up 4/55.
