Player of the match – AD Hales (England)

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat but Amla (4) was bowled when Reece Topley’s inswing turned into a straightner and was out cheaply. Quinton de Kock’s 22 ended by Stokes fullish delivery for lbw. Du Plessis 46 was cut short by Adil Rashid and had him caught at slip. The burden fell on AB de Villiers 73 bowled by Stokes and caught by Jordan and JP Duminy 47 again LBW by Topley, to post a challenging total.

Alex Hales’ 99 from 124 balls played an exciting innings and placed England for victory, as he caught down the leg side pulling at Abbott dreaming of another one day hundred. Eion Morgan kept England with the rate needed. Ben Stokes went for duck.
