When watching Erased (Izbrisani):- brilliantly cast and with very moving scenes from the main actress who plays Ana, one thinks of Bourne sometimes and how he had to work through so many problems as an agent. Ana is in Slovenia but during the wars in Yugoslavia over 25,000 members of the population were erased losing address, identity papers, bank accounts etc. In this drama which was originally a novel by Miha Mazzini (2014) who has written many novels and did an MA in Creative Writing as part of his qualifications at Sheffield South Yorkshire, we focus on Ana who is a single parent but when she goes to give birth, the hospital has no account of her and as a result she has her baby kidnapped by the hospital and she has to leave without her.
The date of the story is around 1992. Ana’s tearful struggles to find redemption and recognition lead her to speak to the baby’s father (married to someone else it seems) and members of the press and TV industries trying to get her story addressed. She also encounters another person who has been erased and meets with her father trying to get a plan together to get her baby out of the hospital. It is difficult not to give the whole plot of the story away so I will leave it to you to know the rest by seeing the film which is obviously subtitled. if you google the film, you will find a number of stories called Erased so put Yugoslavia in the subject box to identify this cold and chilling real life drama which is so gripping to watch.
