WHY ARE WE CREATIVE? THE CENTIPEDE’S DILEMMA

David Bowie
David Bowie

This film (Rise and Shine Films) includes over 50 Nobel Prize Laureates and academy award winners and this is its UK premiere.  The makers of this film took pen and pad to many interviewees and asked them to explain in a few short words on a large sheet of paper with a signature why they thought they were “driven to creativity”.  Film footage was also made.  Its fascinating who theyve got on board:- David Bowie, Ai Wei Wie, George Bush Junior, Gorbachov, John Cleese, who thinks frameworks make you more creative?, Dennis Hopper (unhappy childhood), Bjork – she can’t do anything else but be creative with her life, Picasso – every child is an artist, but it needs to remain with them when they grow up, Quentin Tarantino – “You Tell Me!” – he regards creativty as “an extremely lucky gift by God!”.

Nick Cave and his music, Mel Gibson and all his films, Yoko Ono and some extremely impressive and slightly depressing installation of multiple coffins, Tony Kaye, David Hockney, David Lynch and the amazing Vivienne Westwood, Stephen Hawking, Damien Hirst, and the list goes on and on and on.  it took many years to compile this film interviewing people who bring us music, art, films and books to tell us their potted stories on what drives them. Interviews go back to at least 1995.
David Bowie read “Seven Years in Tibet” when he was seven years old and later met the Dalai Lama in person. Hle went on to become one of the most celebrated and famous creative musician,  singer and performer ever emanating from British soil.
You really need to see this film to take in all the nuances on what drives creative people to be so.  Early on in the film one creative said it is often to do with having two parents with big gaps between them and children having to try and fill in the void between them drives them to become more creative and perhaps more intellgient?
If you are a creative I feel certain you will enjoy watching this documentary with footage of some of the most famous and celebrated crreative people to walk the planet.  It is entirely up to the viewer whom they respect out of this long list of geniuses.  ENJOY
