Tents and shacks were burning down whilst some children were thought to still be in the Calais camp today and yesterday. Other children were queuing to register for future care and accommodation. The authorities say the camp will be cleared by the end of the week and bulldozers will be brought in. Fires are still being lit all around the camp and smoke was billowing out of many parts of the jungle as people ran around and formed groups with blankets round their shoulders and carrying bags full of their possessions. Migrants were warned not to come back to Calais and told it would be a “blind alley” which would not lead to the UK. About 2,000 residents, mainly Eritrean and Sudanese were taken by bus to new accommodation centres across France. Authorities expect a hard core of demonstraters to remain. Young children were crouching by metal barriers and crying for help. Buses were coming and going to pick up people to go to new residences. This is an ongoing saga with no real end at present, such is the backlash of poverty and wars.
