Google identifies flaws in Safari security
Google has detailed security flaws of Apple’s Safari web browser that enabled users to be tracked via a tool designed specially to protect their privacy.
Google’s Cloud team have identified five potential attacks that could have exploited the vulnerabilities, allowing the third party to obtain sensitive private information about the user’s browser habits.
Apple rolled out ITP in2017, with the aim of protecting Safari browser users from being tracked around the web by advertisers and third parties. ITP runs its algorithms on the device which makes it able to detect user behaviour and learn about them automatically, as the ITP list implicitly stores information about the websites visited by the user. The Google researchers also identified a flaw that allowed hackers to create a persistent fingerprint that will follow the user around the web.
