Greggs Vegan sausage rolls break £1bn sales
Greggs, the North East Baker and retailer saw sales rise by 7.2 per cent over the year, with pre-tax profits rising 15 percent to £82.6m.
Roger Whiteside, OBE, CEO said “ whilst there are significant uncertainties in the months ahead Greggs has started 2019 in great form helped by the publicity surrounding the launch of our vegan-friendly sausage roll and our marketing team has also grown its brand reputation, ‘driving reappraisal” of Greggs”.
Ian Durant, Chairman said “infrequent and non-users who have yet to recognise how much Greggs have changed in recent years” and referred to the extra ordinary level of social and general media coverage following the Veganuary campaign.
Durant is also chairman of Capital and Counties properties and a former non-executive director of DFS, Home Retail Group and Greene King. Durant has over 35 years experience in retail and has held senior executive financial positions at a broad range of FTSE 250 companies with notable roles including financial director at Liberty International and group finance director at Thistle Hotels.
