Auckland in New Zealand was the first major city to launch its fireworks and said goodbye to 2018 and welcomed in the New Year with a bang.

London is open fireworks light up the capital as over 100, 000 people lined the banks of the Thames and saw eight tonnes of fireworks set off from three barges and from the London Eye. Big Ben countdown to midnight especially after it was closed down for renovation in August 2017. In Scotland, the biggest celebration was Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, with over 75, 000 counting down the 10 seconds to midnight then watching fireworks to a German band Meute soundtrack.

In Sydney, Australia, 1.5 million people were thronged in the city’s harbour to count down to midnight, but wrong message was beamed on to Sydney Harbour Bridge “ Happy New Year 2018” followed by the largest ever fireworks display which costs £3.2m and consisted of 8.5 tonnes of fireworks and lasted for 12 minutes.
