Pakistan won the toss and chose to field.

This is the third time when India’s top four batsman all going past 50 in an ODI inning, as the previous two occasions were both v England at Headingly in 2007 and Indore in 2006. India set Pakistan 324 runs to get in 48 overs. India started well with Rohit and Dhawan with a 136-run opening stand. Rohit started off slowly and took large share of early strike, then he opened up , then Dhawan wenty big, When Imad Wasim opened the bowling for Pakistan and welcomed Viray Kohli to the wicket. Rohit and Kohli scored 56 in 12.1 overs which slowed the mid-innings. After several misfields and dropped catches of Yuvraj Singh to the wicket on 8 and Virat Kohli on 43 from Pakistan, the pair added 45 off 24 and 38 off 12 through some lovely strokeplay. But late hitting from Yuvraj, Kohli and Hardik Pandya left Pakistan a mountain to climb.

India scored 72 runs in the last four overs, 17 more than they scored in 14 overs between 22nd and the 35th. Hasan’s figures took a battering and poor Imad had to come back – in the absence of two frontline bowlers – to be hit for three successive sixes by Pandya in the last over. Yuvraj Singh is the Player of the Match. A minute’s silence was observed at Edgbaston the morning after Saturday’s terror attacks in London.
