India won by 151 runs

England are bowled out in two sessions for 120 in 51.5 overs. India lead the series 1-0. People’s Monday at Lord’s belonged to Virat Kohli’s Army, as England only had themselves to blame, as their tactics of trying to blast out India’s tail with short ball hit them badly. Jasprit Bumrah’s 89-run ninth wicket stand energised India and made them unstoppable.

England were set a nominal 272 target to survive 60 overs to draw. Instead they collected a new series of records for ducks as their dependence on Root was badly exposed again even after India dropped three catches.

Siraj taking four wickets for 34 and knocking over the last two wickets in four balls. While Bumrah’s three of 33 was full of pace and variation.

The fifth day aggression was pushed to limit which infected almost every player.

England got sucked into a fight with Kohli and in the process lost focus on the main prize of dismissing India when they let loose at Bumrah and Sami with a salvo of short balls and spread the field thinking one would back away and pop a catch. This was Root’s 54th Test as captain.  At this stage India were 209 for eight only 182 ahead and winviz predictor on Sky gave England a 47 per cent chance of winning, but an hour later it dropped to one per cent. India’s tail wagged a warning sign at Trent Bridge adding 48 runs in the first test. India scored at four an over as Shami reached a 50 batting properly, not slogging which eventually made Kohli declare.

In reply Burns  looking  to work a ball going down the leg side, but gets a leading edge to Mohammed  by Siraj who was close from mid-off, bowled by Bumrah for duck.

“Oh no” from Joe Root to the second ball after tea, as he nicks Jasprit Bumrah into the hands of Virat Kohli at first slip. A brilliant piece of bowling from Bumrah as he bowls wide of the crease and angles into Root, as it straightens marginally and Root pokes at it. England in Deep trouble. England 67-5

Kohli drops Buttler on 2. England 80-5.

Siraj bowls with a good line and length to Moeen Ali’s off stump, prompting him to defend, as the ball nips away and takes the edge to Virat Kohli. In the next ball Siraj dismisses Sam  Curran caught by Pant in his gloves. England 90-7

Bumrah traps Robinson lbw England 120-8.

Buttler caught by Pant for 25 off Siraj delivery.

James Anderson hangs the bat out to one from Siraj, and India’s fielders erupt but there is not bat on it. Next ball Siraj goes round the wicket and he smashes a full one into Anderson’s stumps.

Joe Root England Captain said “ We couldn’t quite manage to see out today which is very frustrating. There is still a lot of cricket to be played in this series and you can bet that we’ll be coming in the next three games. We went form a very strong position where we looked like we would go on and win to the game to being behind and making it very difficult for ourselves. I’ve got to do a lot of learning and that if we find ourselves in a similar position that tactically I am better.””

Indian Skipper Virat Kohli said “ I fell super proud of the whole team. The way we stuck to our plans with the ball and our performance with the bat was outstanding, I’ve been a part of a winning Test team at Lord’s under MS Dhoni nut in that game we put them under pressure on day  Four. Today It’s 60 overs  and just under two sessions. Mohammed Siraj bowling like he did on his first appearance at Lord’s was great. Wheat happened on the field charged us up and gave us the motivation. We decided 60 overs was our mark but the breakthroughs came with the new ball. When we got the crowd behind us and we were happy with the support. We fed off that energy. It’s a day late celebrations for independence Day It’s the best feeling we can give the Indians here and back in India. We have three matches to go and we will be just as intense”.

Man of the Match KL Rahul said “ Having been put into bat we needed a good start, and to put a decent total on board, and the partnership with Rohit was really crucial”.

Earlier India declared 298-8 a lead of 271 runs. Rishabh Pant 22 edges Ollie Robinson behind to Buttler after being forced into playing defensively at one on a length India 198-7 a lead of 171.
