Japanese carmaker Toyota has been granted a patent that describes a  car that is capable of flying. The car is described to have wheels with rotor blades, which would allow it to take off vertically. Each of the wheels will have an electric motor fed by a system that would generate enough electric power to drive them.

Toyota has been awarded a patent for an “aerocar” that easily transitions from a land automobile into a flying machine. Designed with a shape-shifting skin, this vehicle has wings hidden under the body that pop out from a hatch unfurling in a similar way to the wings of birds and a fully loaded propulsion system for when the driver is ready to fly.

An aerocar, a roadable aircraft which can be driven on the road inland mode and then morph into a flying vehicle for take-off- the land as an aircraft in a flight mode. According to Toyota,  who filed the flying car patent in 2014 said:  “ Shape morphine fuselage for an aerocar”, opens up a whole new and exciting industry of private travel.

This aerocar is shaped to optimize aerodynamic lift, limit drag and support flight stability.
