James Anderson with his first ten balls made history and became the first England bowler and 12th from all test countries, to take 400 test wickets. However, New Zealand roared back and closed the day at 297 for 8, helped by England fielders Wood, Gary Balance and Cook dropped Latham 3 times in two overs. New Zealand’s disastrous start 2 for 2 was recovered by Latham and Ross Taylor who added 66 runs off 74 balls, with both McCullum and Luke Ronchi to continue the assault. Anderson, Broad and wood took 7 of the 8 wickets from Kristall Lane End. By close the toursits scored 174 off 40 overs in the final session as the morning session was washed out by rain.
