German Fighter aircrafts Typhoons with a top speed of 1320mph and a powerful 27mm Mauser cannon on board, were scrambled on Thursday 16th February 2017, as London bound Jet Airways plane, 9w 118, was crossing over Cologne, after it lost radio contact. As a precaution the Typhoons continued to escort plane until landing at Heathrow.

The jet airways Boeing 777-300 carrying 330 passengers and 15 crews from Mumbai to London Heathrow, was over Cologne when radio contact abruptly stopped or thought to have tuned in at the wrong radio frequency.

The plane continued along its planned flight path and the fighter pilots managed to restore radio contact just north of Nuremberg using emergency channels.

Euro fighter Typhoons are also used by the RAF as well as the German Air Force.

Jet Airways said in a statement: “Contact between Jet Airways flight 9W 118, from Mumbai to London’s Heathrow Airport and the local ATC, was briefly lost while flying over German airspace.
