Raindance will continue to support and inspire film fans and the broader film community, enabling them to thrive during COVID19 pandemic. Britain’s arts and culture organisations have long recognised the need to adapt to survive when faced with the likes of funding cuts or changes in the way audiences engage – and like its compatriots throughout the UK and beyond, as Raindance Film Festival safely adapts an online experience for its 28th edition (28 October – 7 November 2020), to run in parallel with a number of live activities, including industry sessions, panels and gigs at various central London venues.

Review of “Jimmy is Punk” – The story of PANIC (Punk Band from Amsterdam,  Holland) Raindance Film Festival 2020 – Good old fashioned “silly” stunts, “silly” words, “silly” behaviour and great music!

Nominated as the best music documentary in the 28th Raindance Film Festival the above itemised film mainly covers a concert in Gouda, Holland,  in 1978. The crazy night included the use of a fire extinguisher on stage and the lead singer performing mainly in a pair of tight fitting revealing swimming trunks with the flag of the USA on them.  There is a song called 13 which is about a person really wanting to be 16! A “Song for Dictators” has the words “kill” and “will” constantly included.  Camera technique includes the audience dancing manicly to the music and some of them getting on the stage from time to time. Scenes in the kitchen of the establishment after the concert, show the band post  performance trying to help explain to the management about damage done on stage and in the rest rooms etc.  On stage the lead singer kept grabbing open bottles of beer and lathering his audience and himself with them.  The band PANIC did also go to the USA  and perform at CBGB in New York as well as feature in a Rock Against Racism concert.  This footage is precious and the lead singer is a tall well honed character full of mischief angst and merriment.  ENJOY.
