Joe Root Dropped by Brad Haddin on the second ball he faced Marc Stark, went on to make an excellent defiant 134 hitting 17 fours , his second against Australia and the seventh of his test career and Gary Balance’ s 61, the pair made 153 for the fourth wicket, that pulled England from a dismal 43-3. Later Ben Stokes arrived making a brisk 52, 6 fours and 2 sixes. By close England reached 343 for 7.
