Justin Jones (30) who filmed on his iPhone and live-streamed himself speeding at more than 120mph in Wales was arrested after a bizarre tip-off from Canada. His live stream on Facebook watched a viewer in Canada 4, 000 miles away was unimpressed and phone the British police.

Jones of Panteng, Fellnfoel, Llanelli, drove on the wrong side of the road and careered through the streets and gave video evidence via Facebook.

Judge Huw Rees concluded, “Jones displayed selfish stupidity of the highest order” before jailing him for 25 months and giving a four-year driving ban. Swansea Crown Court heard Jones posted four videos of himself driving dangerously in a Vauxhall Astra and a BMW X5 on three separate days. The footage revealed him holding the steering wheel in one hand and clutching his mobile phone in the other.

Prosecutor David Singh said Jones used one stretch of road as a “racetrack” in his Astra hitting speeds of over 120mph, driving through a pedestrian crossing, ignored solid white lines, and laughed as he filmed himself.

A video played in court showed Jones pointing the camera at the speedometer with the screech of tyres and roaring engine noise in the background. It also shoed him taking narrow country bends on the wrong side of the road around Llanelli, Carmarthenshire.

Following the Canadian tip-off, police arrested Jones who told officers he was being childish. He admitted three counts of dangerous driving and breaching a suspended sentence.

Sgt Ian Price of road safety scheme Go Safe said “Jones’s sentence showed the high risk he poses to other road users. It is a clear message that this type of behaviour is unacceptable and ensures the removal of a dangerous driver from society.”
