Leopard rescued to safety after it plunged into the bottom of the well
A 100lb fully grown female leopard was hoisted to safety after being trapped in a dry 30 feet deep, well in a residential area in Gokulnagar, Assam’s Capital Guwahati, in India, was rescued after a two-hour operation by local forest officials.
The wild leopard was tranquilised with a dart by Bijoy Gogoi, a vet who risked his life to climb down into the hole. She was hauled into a sling before lifting out of consciousness and safety and taken to local state zoo. Leopard sightings are common in the Himalayan city as their natural habitat is destroyed. These leopards perhaps were hunting for stray street dogs and other domestic livestock, as there is hardly any food for these animals.
