Liam Heath claims bronze in the K1, 200m canoe sprint. He got out of his canoe and slapped the winner, the Hungarian Sandor Totka, and the silver medallist Manfredi Rizza generously on the back.

Jamaica’s Hansie Parchment crosses the finish line to win  the 110m hurdles ahead of second placed USA’s Grant Holloway and third placed Ronald Levy.

23-year-old British cyclist Matt Walls  from Oldham, who also won his world championship bronze and European title event was crowned Olympic champion on his debut with a dominant performance in the Omnium and finished with 153 points, 24 more than silver medallist Campbell Stewart of New Zealand, with Italy’s defending champion Elia Viviani taking the bronze.  Wall’s medal marked Team Gb’s 50th medal tally in Tokyo Olympics and the 16th gold.

India’s won the men’s hockey Olympics medal after  41 years defeating Germany 5-4  after Germany took an early lead with Timur Oruz scoring within two minutes of the match. But in the second quatter Simranjeet Singh scored from a well-executed Tomahawk shot, Germany scored two more goals  within two minutes as India looked in too much trouble.  But two penalty corners  for India yielded results as Hardik Singh scored on the rebound from the first one, while Harmanpreet Singh socre another with superb dragflick on to the back of the nets. Rupinder Pal Singh and Simranjeet Singh scored two more goals in third quarter while Lukaws Windfeder pulled on back in the final quarter.
