Mo Farah won his Olympic 5000m title in Rio and added to his gold in the 10,000m as he repeated the distance he won four years ago from London 2012.
GB also won a bronze for the women’s 4x400m relay and Nicola Adams successfully defended her flyweight boxing title and Liam Heath won the kayak single 200m sprint on the penultimate day in Rio.
It is the first time since the modern Olympic era began in 1896 that GB has increased its medal tally at the summer games immediately following one it hosted.
