Mount Etna in Sicily, one of Europe’s tallest and the most active volcanoes in the world erupted spewing lava up in the sky in the early hours of Thursday 16th March 2017, after eight tourists suffered minor injuries. Lava flow mixed with steam had caused a huge explosion, pelting boiling rocks and steam.

Mount Etna, in the Nebrodi mountain range, with an area of 1.190 Square km, towering 10,900feet (3,329 meters) above the city of Catania on the island of Sicily, with base circumfernace of 93 miles ( 150km), has been growing for 500, 000 years and had a variety of eruption style spewing voluminous lava flows and violent explosions., as it is located above a sub-duction zone formed where the African and the Eurasian plates collide and this subduction zone a window had torn in the subducting slab. which also produced Vesuvius and Campi Flegrei. 25% of Sicily’s population lives on Etna’s slopes,and their main income comes from rich volcanic soil and tourism.
