The child’s mother who was taken a North London Hospital days before the birth with suspected pneumonia has also caught the virus. The Mother tested positive at North Middlesex Hospital in Enfield, with results coming through after the birth and minutes after the birth the baby was tested for Covid-19.

Coronavirus- a fast-moving infection a global pandemic originating in China has spread to more than 120 countries and claimed 5,442 lives with 146, 314 infected cases and about 68 000 victims have recovered, worldwide.

According to WHO figures there are about 61, 000 confirmed cases outside China.

Italy has the second-highest number of confirmed cases with more than 17, 600 infected with a loss of 1200 lives. Italian authorities have imposed stringent restrictions closing nearly all shops, bars, hairdressers, restaurants, and cafes until 25 March. China sends medical supplies and a team of 9 Chinese medical staff with 30 tonnes of equipment on a flight organised by the Red Cross Society of China.

Spain has more than 4, 000 cases while France and Germany have more than 3000 cases each.

In the UK there are 800 cases and 11 deaths.

In the US the number of cases climbed to 2, 200 and 49 people lost their lives of which 37 fatalities from Washington State.

Hong Kong which has over 130 cases records fourth coronavirus death an 80-year-old man at Nethersole Eastern Hospital.

Iran and South Korea also have significant outbreaks with 10, 000 and 8000 known cases respectively.

The origins of the coronavirus have been linked to illegally traded wildlife at the seafood market in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province, where the outbreak began and the first case of someone in China suffering from the coronavirus was traced back to November 17,  a 55-year-old man from Hubei province.

Starbucks has said it would consider closing stores temporarily as a last resort as the virus has already taken a toll on many businesses.

Apple has reopened all 42 of its branded stores in China after they were shut due to fears over coronavirus outbreak for over one month.
