Nissan to invest £1bn for giga factory in Sunderland
Japanese car giant Nissan has confirmed to create 1,600 jobs for a new car battery giga factory in Sunderland.
The carmaker will an all-electric cars in Sunderland alongside a giga battery for power the cars.
Nissan’s partner Envision AESC will build a mega battery plant at Sunderland as part of £1bn investment which generate 4, 500 new jobs in the local supply chain.
Nissan said the new electric vehicle being built in the city will make up to 100, 000 electric engines a year will be operational by 2024.
The Sunderland plant celebrates its 35th anniversary this month and Mr Gupta said this is a £1bn birthday present.
The government is contributing funds for the project and Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Nissan is exploiting opportunities offered by Breixt.
