Rudely shaped sticks of rock being sold in seaside resorts is angering residents, visitors and shopkeepers. In

Scarborough for example, traditional childrens’ rock is being sold side by side with suggestive shaped rock and trading standards is clamping down on its sale. Traditional rock makers say they are being swamped with Chinese made confectionary more suited to sex shops and visitors to Scarborough for example have requested it be put on the top shelf.
Rock Shop owner Paul Hart of Morecambe Lancashire says his son will now not go to Blackpool as he does not want his teenage daughter to see what’s on display in the shop window. Blackpool is a family resort after all.
Tony Farrer, of Blackpool-based distributor Rainbow Candies said “I would rather not sell it but that’s what they want.”
Deputy leader of Blackpool Council – Gillian Campbell said “We have agreed with traders to move these products to the back, away from childrens’ eyes.”
