Progressive strong woman changing the world
On the Basis of Sex, is a film based on the life of Supreme Court Justice Ruthj Bader Ginsburg played by Felicity Jones, the only British actor on the set to get into character.

Ruth Ginsburg felt like an outsider as she was in a minority of women going to university, who was discriminated against because of her faith at times because she was pregnant. When she became a lawyer women weren’t allowed to open bank accounts. They couldn’t rent a car unless their husband was standing next to them saying “No she really does know how to drive. It’s true. You can give her a car.”
Written by Ginsburg’s nephew Daniel Stiepleman, the biopic covers 20 years of Ginsburg’s life, hanging on one key moment – her inspired use of a tax case to overturn a century of gender discrimination.
During one of the film’s final scenes, at the crux point in the court room, Jones delivers one of the longest speeches in US cinema for a woman at 5 minutes and 32 seconds.
In the real world as the Supreme Court’s senior liberal, 85-year-old Justice Ginsburg continues to flight for gender equality, marriage equality and voting rights , despite recent cancer surgery.
