Qatar Airways has been named “ Best Airline”  at the 2017 Business Traveller Awards ceremony at London’s Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington hosted by publishers of Business Traveller magazine Panacea Media and presented by special guest John Sergeant.

Qatar Airways also won a raft of other major awards at the ceremony including “Best Airline in the Middle East”, Best Business Class” and “Best Long Haul Airline”.

Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Chief Executive of Qatar Airways said: “ I am extremely proud that Qatar Airways has been recognised in these four award categories. To be voted “ Best Airline”, “ Best Middle Eastern Airline”, “ Best Long Haul Airline” and “ Best Business Class” by the readers of Business Traveller magazine is a significant testimony of our passenger’s trust in what we stand for, placing them first at every stage of a journey.”

Airline Alliance One World, of which Qatar Airways had been a member since 2013, also won the “Best Airline Alliance” award for the fifth consecutive year, confirming One World’s position as the world’s premier global partnership.

Earlier this summer, Qatar Airways launched the Qsuite, its new innovative First in Business Class experience, on the Doha-London route, followed by Paris and shortly to feature on the airline’s flights to New York.

British Airways won the Best Short-Haul Carrier, Best Frequent Flyer programme and Best Airport Lounge, for its Concorde Room at London Heathrow T5, while Singapore Airlines won three awards for Best Economy Class, Best Asian Airline, and Best Cabin Staff. Emirates was named Best First Class and Virgin Atlantic Best Premium Economy Class and Easyjet Best Low-Cost Airline.

American Airlines was named Best North American Airline, South African Airways Best African Airline, and LOT polish Airlines Best Eastern European Airline.

For the 30th year in a row, Singapore’s Changi airport won the Best Airport in the world award, while Amsterdam Schiphol took the Europe prize and London Heathrow was named Best Airport for Tax-Free Shopping.

Axis was named the Best Car Rental Company Worldwide and in Europe. Virgin Trains retained the Best UK Domestic Train Service award.

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts won Best Business Hotel Chain Worldwide and Best Business Hotel in the UK for the InterContinental London Park Lane. Mandarin Oriental bagged the award for Be4st Luxury Hotel Chain.
