Defending champions Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first and ran  into trouble straight away with 7 batsman not crossing single digit. Jos Buttler got the IPL debut but collected a duck, K Pollard out for 1. Only Harbhajan Singh was not out 45 off 30 with 7 fours and 1 six.

Rising Pune Supergiant’s AM Rahane  was not out at 66 , supported by F du Plessis 34 and Kevin Peterson 21  won the opening match easily.
