For the first time Rolls-Royce has received its largest order to date, worth £6.1bn ($9.2bn), to supply over 200 Trent 900 engines for 50 Emirates super-jumbo A380 planes, and TotalCare® support.

Rolls-Royce will provide over 200 Trent 900 engines and, worth $9.2 billion, to Emirates for 50 new Airbus A380s

The news enhanced Rolls-Royce’s share price after a year of profit warnings.

Emirates said the deal gave further support to trade ties between the UK and the United Arab Emirates and would have a “significant economic impact”. Emirates president Sir Tim Clark said: “Today’s announcement is significant not only because it cements the partnership between Emirates and Rolls-Royce, but also because of the significant economic impact that this will have on aviation manufacturing in the UK and Europe.”

Rolls Royce currently employs 24,500 people in the UK, and won’t create any more new jobs as a result of this deal
