England led the 5-match series 2-0

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat. Root scored his 4 consecutive fifties in ODIs, including his innings in this match. He made 65, 93 and 61 in his last 4 ODI eased England to a 4 wicket win over Pakistan at Lord’s. Pakistan was reduced to 2 for 2 within the first 19 deliveries until a rescue century from Wicket keeper Sarfraz Ahmed to reach 251 on a very good surface for batting. England lost two early wickets, Jason Roy who played on having driven without enough foot movement and Alex Hales who tried a sweep shot unsuccessfully, but Root and Eoin Morgan added 112 in 21.3 overs to chase with adequate maturity. Root after reaching 14, did not strike a boundary until he made 75, but made 52 singles in his innings.
