Samsung to displace Intel Corp from the No. 1 spot in Semiconductor sales. Samsung Electronics reports record quarterly profit on the back of sales of memory chips and display panels for the quarter ending in June 2017.

 The Korean Electronics giant have overtaken Intel as the largest chipmaker thanks to neverending de3amnd for chips used in mobile devices and data servers.

 The Operating profit from the April to June quarter was estimated at £9.44bn ( Won 14tn, $12.2bn), up 72 per cent from last year according to Samsung spokeperson.

 Samsung’s quarterly operating profit had actually surpassed that of its arch rival Apple, which is expecting an operting profit of £$8.19bn ( $10.5bn) for the same period.

 Samsung’s revenues woulde be bigger than the combined operating profits of the four big US tech companies inlcuding Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Google estimated at £ 8.97bn ($11.5bn).

 Analysts predit Samsung to report a record operating profit of Won 53tn for the full year, up 81 per cent form 2016, while salews are forecast to rise 1.5 per cent to Won 205tn in 2017.

 Samsung plans to invest £14.51bn ($18.6bn) in South Korea over the next four years, including a Won 1tn investment on an OLED display plant in South Korea, as they control 95 per cent of the mobile OLED market.

 The mobile division have posted an operating profit of Won 3.8tn for the second quarter, aided by new Galaxy S8 smartphone sales, as they expecting to sell 49m S8s in its first year after the April 2017 launch.

Samsung shares were up 30 per cent in the year to date on top of a 43 per cent rise last year to Won 2, 402,000.
