Boris Johnson told PMQs the new lockdown would “expire automatically” on 2 December 2020. There are 11, 000 severely sick Covid-19 patients in English hospitals according to NHS England chief Sir Simon Stevens. Some shops extend opening hours for the second day after long queues on Tuesday evening.

On Thursday, England will be going back into lockdown with pubs, restaurants and non-essential shops told to close although click and collect are available where customers order products online and go to pick them up – will be allowed. Garden centres can also stay open this time as can waste and recycling tips.

Dentists and opticians can open as usual this time as can chiropractors and osteopaths.
