Serena Williams beats Germany’s Angelique Kerber in straight sets 7-5 6-3, her seventh Wimbledon title, and equals Steffi Graf’s open-era record of 22 Grand slam singles titles. It is her 9th Grand Slam win since she turned 30.

“I had couple of tries this year, and lost to two great players, one of them Angelique, and what makes the victory ever sweeter is knowing how hard I worked for it” Williams said.

The German in her first Wimbledon final, was fighting for each point and using speed to run down everything, forced Williams to hit an extra ball every time. Serena felt the stress in the first set and once she won by firing a massive backhand for the winner to break 7-5, that she took a deep breath “if I just play my game, I know I have a really good chance of winning this match.” Beyonce was in Serena’s player box.

Serena’s fastest ace of the match at 124mph, helped her hold and after nreaking for 5-3, she served out flawlessly.

Kerber, having lost the Wimbledon final will rise to the No2 ranking on Monday.
