P21 Gallery Kings Cross.

Refugee Week, info@sinkwithout trace.com, Arts Council of England, Lottery funded.

The work of 18 artists is included in this exhibition on the subject of migrant deaths at sea. The artists hail from Denmark, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Iraqi Kurdistan, Israel, Italy, Slovakia, South Africa, Sudan and the UK, currently living in France, Germany, Italy and the UK.

The artwork documenting migrant deaths began in 2011 and uses video works, sculpture, printmaking, photography, painting, drawing and writing in books and articles. These media give a different and more detailed insight and perspective to the problem than that documented by politicians and traditional broadcasting.

Included in the exhibition are materials and objects collected from Shipwrecked migrant boats, and works made by unaccompanied minors in transit camps in Calais. The exnhibition also includes documentation on the forensics project relating to the migrant boat currently on display at the Venice Biennale.

Between 17 and 23 June, a rescued North African migrant boat will be on public display close to the gallery on Regent’s Canal Kings Cross during Refugee Week.

The Sink without Trace exhibition and catalogue are raising money for Alarm Phone – a rescue hotline for migrants in distress at sea (www.alarmphone.org).

There are a number of events still to attend including Artists Talks – 19 June 6-9, Weave a Flying Carpet Sat 17 July 12 – 6 pm P21 Gallery and 10 July Sympoisum Deaths at Sea, Migration and Art 6-9. For more information google the gallery or contact info@sinkwithouttrace.com. 0207 121 6190
