Storm Usman and landslides kill 70 in Philippines
70 people have died and over 20 missing after super powerful storm Usman struck the Bicol region in the Benquet province, southeast of capital Manila, Philippines on Saturday.
People did not take precautions as the storm which brought in heavy rain and triggered landslides was not classed as a typhoon under the government’s alert system.
Typhoon Mangkhut, the strongest tropical cyclone of the year damaged the island nation with winds of 125mph in September. In 2013, Super Typhoon Haiyan sparked category four alerts and killed over 7, 360 people and affected millions.
On an average 20 typhoons and storms lash the Philippines each year, killing hundreds of people leaving million in poverty.
