Eighty-year-old Pope Francis, has written a book, The Name of God is Mercy, published in more than 80 countries, with powerful divine message for the world’s 1.2bn Roman Catholics. We are all guilty, he is saying, all guilty, but god’s mercy is infinite and also do not forget the mercy of God’s Church. This book could anger those Catholics for whom the rules are everything.

Pope Francis has only one lung fully functional and suffers from chronic sciatica. He wakes up early at 4:30am and begins his day with two hours prayer. He also preaches a daily homily in his Vatican Chapel, twice weekly public sermons, and several major ceremonies and pastoral visits around Italy. In addition to that he made official trips to 11 countries including Cuba, Central African Republic and US. Last June he published his book, which is described as a conversation with the Italian journalist Andrea Tornielli. Coinciding with the Holy Year of Mercy, that Pope Francis has declared, the book appears to be targeted at those Catholics who are, by the Church’s rules, living in sin. It is easy for sexually active Catholics to be sinful somewhere along the line, since the official Church teaching bans sex outside marriage, gay sex and every form of contraception and pornography. Abortion is condemned as a heinous sin. Gender reassignment is banned as self-mutilation. All sexual sins, including sexual fantasy are classed as grave or mortal and exclude a Catholic from receiving holy communion at Mass, unconfessed at death, as the Church teaching down the ages, a mortal sin drags a soul down to hell. Pope Francis was asked about homosexuality  and to the scandal of Catholics conservatives he said: “Who am I to judge?”

The book explains the neats and scruffies as neats are conservatives known at traditionalists or rigorists. The scrufflies are the liberals known as progressives.

While the neats regret passing the traditional Latin devotions and the clarity of church doctrines are not subject to alteration, that living in sin and calling yourself Catholic is not an option.

The scruffies believes devotions and doctrines can be updated citing Pope John XXIII agglornamento. The scruffies believes that many of the so called sins of a sexual kind are minor, or not sins at all, especially the use of artificial contraception and sex outside marriage,

Pope Francis often taken scruffy, as he talks the everyday language and lives and eats in a kind of Vatican hostel rather than the apostolic palace. He prefers humble Ford Focus to the papal limo.

Pope Francis says “the prayers of the faithful work miracles and prevents hardening of the heart, that bring changes to church, it’s not us popes, bishops, priests or nuns who carry the Church forward, but the Saints”. Saints are those who dare to believe that God is the Lord and “He can do everything” Pope Francis concluded.
