The Queen’s children and grandchildren, including King Charles III and his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, Prince William and Harry and their wives, Catherine and Meghan, greeted her coffin on its arrival at Buckingham Palace.
The hearse accompanied by the Queen’s daughter Princes Anne, travelled by road after a flight from Edinburgh. There was applause from the thousands gathered outside as the hearse arrived at the palace. Shouts of “hip, hip horray” were heard as the gloomy mood turned into a respectful celebration of the late Queen. Princes Royal, Princes Anne, said it had been an “honour and privilege” to accompany the Queen on her final journeys, having travelled with her mother’s coffin from Balmoral to London.” We will share unique memories. I offer my thanks to each and everyone who shares our sense of loss. Witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on those journeys has been both humbling and uplifting”.
The coffin will lie in state in the hall until the morning of the funeral next Monday. Nearly 500, 000 people are expected to be able to file past it there.
